Addiction & Soul Sickness
The consequences of alcohol and drug addiction affect an individual’s entire life. The addict can become physically ill. Their family relationships and other personal relationships suffer. They may be unable to persist in high-quality work at jobs or in school. Addicts may withdraw until their only social contacts are other drug and alcohol addicts to keep them company while abusing substances. Underscoring each of these losses is separation from God. Alcoholics Anonymous is a program founded on this belief, and the 12 Step program works to reunite the addict with God. Millions of people have used the 12 Step program to address alcohol addiction.
The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous is based on the Bible. It states that a strengthening of the spirit is the only way to overcome diseases, whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual. We agree with this principle at Pacific Hills, and base treatment around it by fostering clients’ relationships with God, however the client understands God to be. This is evident both in the Christian 12 Step and Traditional 12 Step programs.
